Best undercounter ice machine for a cafe
There is no single “best” undercounter for every cafe. There is a best fit for a Saturday iced-drink count, a counter width, and a 115 V circuit. This page is a shortlist from public spec sheets, not a review score.
Size the Saturday, not the brochure
Use the sizing guide. A useful cafe range from application articles is 0.35–0.6 lb per iced drink, or 1–1.5 lb per customer if almost every ticket is iced.

Bin math: if you sell 80 drinks between 11:00 and 13:00, that is ~40 lb in two hours. A 26 lb gourmet bin is empty before the rush ends unless the machine is catching up — and gourmet machines are slow.
What cafes usually want
- Half-dice, crescent, or cubelet/nugget for iced coffee and fountain. Crescent and half-dice pack in a cup; nugget/cubelet is the chewable “soda ice” some guests expect.
- 115 V / 15 A, cord and plug, if the shop is a strip-center buildout.
- Front breathing if the machine sits in a millwork hole.
- A filter on day one. Espresso water treatment is not automatically ice-machine treatment. See filters.
Gourmet and sphere ice are slow-melt and pretty; they are usually a second machine for a tasting menu, not the iced-latte plant.

Discarded on purpose: European KM-80C (220–240 V / 50 Hz) and discontinued AM-50BAJ / KM-80BAJ. The current compact top-hat is AM-50BAK (54 lb, 27 lb bin) — office/hotel more than a busy cafe.
A practical pick pattern
- Iced-coffee shop, 150–250 drinks, 24″–26″ hole: KM-161BAK or UYF-0140A / ICEU150HA, depending on ice shape and which tech you already use.
- Tiny bar-cafe, 15″ gap, mostly espresso: C-80BAK if you want chewable ice; CU50 or AM-50BAK if you want a slow cube and low volume.
- Blended drinks all afternoon: add production and consider nugget/cubelet (C-80BAK or a modular nugget). Cube ice in a blender works; it is louder and melts differently.
Air-cooled machines hate a closed cabinet and a greasy hood. If the only spot is a 95°F pastry corner, read the 90/70 column and air vs water.
